Fort Lauderdale Waterfront Homes to benefit from Sunrise Bridge Renovation

Fort Lauderdale Waterfront Home discussions always lead to a Fort Lauderdale Real Estate discussion about bridge heights, and ocean access. Its been talked about for years and now it appears that work on the Sunrise Boulevard Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale is scheduled to begin. This project is long on the wish list for certain owners of Fort Lauderdale Waterfront Homes.

The State of Florida has called the Ft. Lauderdale, 50 plus year old bridge structurally deficient,  and the  three-year project consists of demolishing two existing two- lane spans and replacing them with an extra lane in each direction.
The Fort Lauderdale Bridge which is just west of the Galleria Mall is going to be raised approximated four feet given it a clearance of just over 10 feet.  The next bridge up river has a clearance of 8 feet so this will certainly be a benefit to the property Fort Lauderdale Real Estate owners with property between the two bridges.

Just north of the bridge is the East Point Tower Condominium which will now be able to house much larger boats on their under utilized docks. In addition it will allow owners of smaller boats who were unable to head upriver, when hurricane protection was needed to find safer places for their boats if a hurricane is approaching.

Starting Thursday and continuing for the next 18 months, is really preparation for the main project which is due to start in 2013. A temporary bridge is being built to handle westbound traffic while construction on the new bridge begins all traffic will be moved to the westbound span, The goal is to keep traffic moving on  this main roadway which leads to  prime Fort Lauderdale Shopping Areas, and Fort Lauderdale Beach throughout the project.

The Sunrise Bridge project is a welcome project to the Fort Lauderdale Waterfront Home owners in the area just north of the project.  Fort Lauderdale Waterfront Homes on Middle River Drive, and the area of Bal Harbor, will have ocean access for bigger boat which will help their property values, even though the areas will remain what we refer to as “fixed bridge waterfront”.
